Santo Antão (island)

Santo Antão (island) – unlike some of the other Cape Verdean islands, this one is mountainous with contrasting landscapes. Travelers trekking through this island are like to go from the dry and barren capital (Porto Novo) up to the lush farmed crater of Cova do Paul in the center of the island with its pine and eucalyptus forests. A number of mountain villages (some clinging to the mountainsides) can also be found throughout this island. Eco-tourists who go through this island will also find an Alpine-like feel to the local atmosphere, due to its elevation.
